I think the Dominicans can compete with the rest of the Caribbean region in manufacturing for several reasons. They have the workforce. They have resources and tax shields. And shipping/distribution should be easy because of their location. They're right on the route of the major world shipping lanes. They just need more technology to enable them to compete with Mexico and Asia.
